RACING DRIVER CHRISTIAN WEIR CHAMPIONS DRIVE FOR 155 ENDURANCE FUNDRAISER BENEFITING DUPAGE PADS
Naperville Native and Event Organizer Rallies Racing Community Around $1.8 Million Milestone for DuPage County Families Experiencing Homelessness
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — What began as one competitor’s desire to race for something bigger than a trophy has become a defining mission for professional racing driver Christian Weir and his family. Weir, a Naperville native competing at the national level in sports car racing, is now a primary organizer of the Drive for 155 — DuPage PADS’s annual endurance karting fundraiser held at Kart Circuit Autobahn in Joliet, Illinois.
Each year, approximately fifteen teams take to the track for a multi-hour endurance race, competing not just for position, but in raising funds to provide housing, food, and emergency support to families across DuPage County. Since the event’s founding, the Drive for 155 has raised over $1.8 million for DuPage PADS — a milestone that reflects years of deepening community investment.
For Weir, the cause is deeply personal. His mother, Tami Weir, served on the DuPage PADS board of directors for six years, giving the family a ground-level understanding of the critical work the organization does throughout the county.
“We race to win on the track, but the biggest victory is our community coming together to ensure a family secures a safe place to sleep tonight.” — Christian Weir
The commitment extends well beyond race day. Each winter, Weir personally shops for Christmas presents for children served by DuPage PADS — because for the Drive for 155 community, advocacy means showing up in ways that go far beyond writing a check.
The need is real and immediate. At any given time, approximately one-third of DuPage County’s homeless population are children. DuPage PADS, founded in 1985, is the largest provider of interim and permanent housing, along with support services, in the county. Its mission centers on helping individuals and families move from housing crisis to lasting stability — with a 90% success rate among supportive housing clients retaining their housing.
The “155” in the event’s name represents the number of nights DuPage PADS shelters are open each year — a number the Drive for 155 community works to make count.
