The famous Month of May in Indianapolis is in full swing, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway had its first glimpse of on-track action this weekend for the GMR Grand Prix. Amongst the INDYCAR ladder of series was the USF Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires with breakout team TJ Speed.
Over the last two USF Pro 2000 races on both the Streets of St. Petersburg and Sebring International Raceway, TJ Speed has established itself as a frontrunner in the series with three highly talented drivers. Christian Weir, the driver of the #32 TJ Speed Motorsports car, turned out to be the team’s highest scoring driver of the weekend with two impressive top-ten results. Weir, who has a history of producing results in Indy, seemed very comfortable out on the track, passing six cars on his way to eighth place in the first race, only to then beat his best finish in race two making it just shy of the fast five in the sixth position.
“The last race was really chaotic with a lot of restarts, but I really took advantage of it,” explained Weir. “I got up to fourth, then it was just about managing it and we ended sixth. I’m happy with the result as the team gave me a quick car, and I’m looking forward to continuing the Month of May in Indy at the Carb Night Classic in a couple of weeks.”
Christian’s positive weekend comes after a tough start to the season for the young driver.
“We are confident Christian has what it takes to be up there fighting in the front for a podium,” added TJ Speed Team Owner Tim Neff. “We got a taste of that this weekend, and we look forward to seeing him succeed at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway next week.”
Christian Weir, along with the TJ Speed Motorsports team, will get back on track next week May 25th and 26th at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park for the annual Carb Night Classic, the only oval race on the 2023 USF Pro 2000 schedule.
