Why I Support Racing to End Alzheimer’s
I’d like you to meet my grandfather – Tom Weir. He’s the reason this cause means so much to me. At 87 years old, he’s been married to my grandmother, Jan, for 59 wonderful years. These should be their golden years—filled with travel, joy, and time with family. But instead, they’ve been navigating the challenges of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
Grandpa was diagnosed in the Spring of 2012. I don’t remember much of how he was before, but I’ve always known him as a kind and funny man. He says and does some ‘odd’ things, but to us, that’s just Grandpa—and we love him for it. Thankfully, his condition has progressed more slowly than expected, largely due to the treatments he’s received. We consider every moment with him a gift.
Racing to End Alzheimer’s is driven by a single mission: to find a cure so that no one—and no family—has to endure what this disease takes away. Life is meant to be shared through memories with the people we love. With your support, I believe we can help bring about a future where no one has to fear losing themselves or their memories.
