TJ Speed Motorsports driver Christian Weir claimed another top-ten finish at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this past weekend gaining crucial points in the championship running. Despite a challenging weekend, Weir pushed hard to overcome the adversity.
“As a team, we struggled this weekend to find the sweet spot in the car,” explained Weir. “Mid-Ohio is a difficult track to master and .001 of a second can make or break you. We didn’t qualify great, but I used that as an opportunity to challenge myself to drive the car to the best of my ability and it paid off in the races with finishes of an eighth and 14th.”
Race one of the weekend saw a bit of rain, causing a quick tire change to wet tires for all competitors in the last leg of the race. Due to yellow flags and eventual red flag, a five-minute mandatory pit stop to change to wet weather Cooper Tires was opened as the 30-lap race was shortened to 21 laps due to a time allotment.
After this weekend, Christian sits in 13th in the driver championship running out of a total of 22 competitors while TJ Speed Motorsports sits in fourth in the team championship.
Christian added, “I want to thank the team for tirelessly working together all weekend and for their confidence in me to give them the best result I’m capable of. It is unsure now if I will be able to race in Toronto. Like a lot of drivers, funding has been extremely difficult to find. My supporters have been relentlessly working hard to keep me going. Toronto was one of my favorite races last year. It’s a great city and a fun track so I’m hoping it all works out.”
Stay tuned to see if Christian will be able to continue his USF Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires run on the Streets of Toronto from July 14th through the 16th. Follow along with his social media pages for news, information, photos, and results throughout event weekends.
