NAPERVILLE, IL (January 30, 2025) – Hoping to build off a successful 4 rounds in 2024, 18 year old Christian Weir makes the commitment to compete in a full 2025 Toyota GR Cup North America season with TechSport Racing. “I am exited to have this opportunity and am very grateful to TechSport.” says Weir, “I had so much fun racing at both VIR and Road America last summer. These cars are a blast and the racing is very competitive.” He added “I am confident that the GR Cup is the right place for me and TechSport will give me a car capable of winning. The GR Cup has some extremely talented drivers and the racing has non-stop action. If you haven’t been watching this series you are really missing something great.”
Launched in 2023, the GR Cup is Toyota’s focused spec racing series held at seven iconic race tracks across the United States. Toyota Gazoo Racing North America (TGRNA) is set to return for its third season of the GR Cup Series in 2025. Competing under the SRO Motorsports America banner, the GR Cup is a thrilling single-make series where over 30 drivers push their identical GR86 Cup Cars to the limit, competing for a million-dollar prize purse.
Christian began his racing career at the age of 14 in single-seaters and had success in both the USF Championships and US F4 Championship. In 2023, he worked his way up the ladder to the USF Pro 2000 and had several top 10s until budget issues cut his season short. “It was a gut punch and the uncertainty of what my racing future was going to look like was difficult.” said Christian Weir. “I used my time off to focus on school and working with my supporters to get me back in a seat. I did have some experience in sportscar racing in both the Porsche Sprint Challenge and the Radical Cup. Autobahn Driver Academy has a couple of GR86s they use for their performance driving school and that gave me access to the cars prior to joining the series. Having that access and experience made is easy for me to make the leap into the GR86 and get up to speed pretty fast. ” He then added, “I know it’s not going to be a cakewalk and I will work very hard to keep the positive momentum going.”
TechSport Racing is a professional race team operating out of Thomasville, North Carolina.
