Naperville Racing Phenom Christian Weir Secures Full-Season Toyota GR Cup Seat with TechSport Racing

JOLIET, IL — FEBRUARY 7, 2025 — Autobahn Country Club member and open-wheel standout Christian Weir has officially signed with championship-winning TechSport Racing for a full-season campaign in the 2025 Toyota GR Cup North America.

The 18-year-old racing driver from Naperville, Illinois, transitions to a full-time sportscar schedule following a highly impressive, selective debut in the series last summer. Weir will pilot the #71 Toyota GR86 as part of TechSport’s aggressive multi-car effort aimed at reclaiming the SRO America Team Championship.

“I am excited to have this opportunity and am very grateful to TechSport,” said Weir. “I had so much fun racing at both VIR and Road America last summer. These cars are a blast and the racing is very competitive.”

From Open-Wheel to Production Sportscars

Weir brings a diverse, high-caliber resume to the Toyota GR Cup grid. Mentored by Formula Nippon Champion Richard Lyons, his background features successful stints across the Road to Indy ladder (including the U.S. F2000 National Championship), the FRP Eastern Pro 4 Championship, and the Porsche Sprint Challenge.

During his limited part-time appearance with TechSport in 2024, Weir demonstrated immediate adaptability to production-based sports cars. He secured a commanding pole position and a podium finish at Road America, confirming his status as a frontrunner for the 2025 title fight.

A Powerhouse Alliance

By joining TechSport Racing, Weir aligns himself with one of the most decorated operations in touring car motorsport. Based in Thomasville, North Carolina, TechSport has amassed six Team Championships and three Driver Championships since 2014.

“Our goal is to return to the top and secure that team trophy,” stated TechSport Racing team owner Kevin Anderson. “Christian proved his race-winning pace with us last year, and having him back for a complete season strengthens our driver roster immensely.”

Local Roots and Community Drive

When he is not traveling the national racing circuit, Weir sharpens his skills on the asphalt of his home track, the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet. Weir is also highly recognized in the Chicagoland community for his philanthropic leadership. He coordinates the annual Drive for 155 go-kart endurance race at Kart Circuit Autobahn, an initiative that raises substantial funding—surpassing $155,000 annually—to support DuPagePads in their mission to end homelessness.

Weir’s 14-race championship hunt officially kicks off at the season opener at Sonoma Raceway.
