On July 13th Christian Weir and Dark Mode Racing will once again participate in the DuPagePADS 14th Annual Drive for 155. The Drive is a 4-hour karting race held at Kart Circuit Autobahn and is part of the sprawling Autobahn Country Club just south of Joliet, Illinois. Teams work together seeking donations to benefit DuPagePADS with a goal of raising $155,000 to assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The green flag will drop this Saturday at 5:30 pm and will continue after sunset under the lights of KCA with a checkered flag flying at 9:30 pm.
DuPagePADS was founded in 1985 to provide interim and permanent housing to those experiencing homelessness in DuPage County. PADS is tuned in to the fact that the solution to homelessness is so much more complex than offering food and temporary shelter; it is about offering the tools and support to stop the cycle. In addition to housing, the team at PADS puts their clients in touch with any supplemental support they may need, like case management and employment support.
Christian along with his Dark Mode teammates – Mitch Graybeal, Evan Cooley, Connor Willis, Spencer McFarlane and Zach Kubinski have been part of the Drive since 2019. They are a group of young racers that are dedicated to working together to end homelessness. Their collective efforts have raised over $30,000 contributing to the over $1.2 million total donations since the event’s inception in 2010 and every dollar has gone directly to the unsheltered in the community.
“I make time for this event every year,” says Christian Weir. “DuPagePADS is an organization that I am proud to be partnered with because they really do help so many people. It makes me sad to think about all the kids that don’t have a place to call home and if I can help with that and race with my buddies, it’s a win-win.”
